Ya know, I've actually been busy the last few days.
I bought a new ROCK VAN! It's a big ass `78 Ford Econoline E-250. It did well on the test drive and it passed smog check. It's been rebuilt and is in pretty good shape. The only things wrong with it are a little play in the front end, the transmission is a little slow to shift, the driver side speaker needs to be fixed, and I have to fix the skylight before it rains. I bought it from this really cool guy in Highland Park. He was unloading it because he's got five cars.
This thing is HUGE. I wish I had a digi camera. Man, it's a goddamn tank. Yes, I know it'll only get 12mpg, but I'm usually on my motorcycle anyway. This is for special errands, trips and playing crazy rock music. So, now I'm all set. I hope I get to stay and we can play some shows. Otherwise, at least the van has a trailer hitch in case I have to move back home.
No work yet, but I contacted a temp firm today and they said they'd contact me if anything came up. I left a resume taped to the door of a club that's supposed to open in a few weeks. Amy, the bartender over at Footsie's gave me the lead. That would be killer because the club is five blocks away and I could live my dream of being able to walk to work.
I kicked ass on my test last week. It was almost a joke. 55 multiple guess questions. I finished it in under 20 minutes. I was kind of embarassed to be the first one done. I get the results tomorrow. My teacher is loco in the coco. Last week, she rambled on about the problems of having too firm a belief in a religious faith. IT"S A GODDAMN ABNORMAL PSYCHE CLASS. What the hell is up with the social programming. So, me & my big mouth, I put her on the spot and ask if there's any benefits to health & well-being from a spiritual practice. She tried to put that shit back on me. I need to shut the hell up for the rest of the semester. Man, I had no idea community colleges were like this. If I'm still here next semester, I've got to check out SMCC or PasadenaCC.
I'm working on designing a graphics package for my schoolmate's husband. She gave me rides to work when I was gimpy, so I'm not going to charge them. So far, it's been pretty smooth, but I'm still waiting for him to approve the tray and the disc.
I've been learning a lot of popular songs lately. It started mainly out of boredom & wanting to spring shit on my bandmates. Now, it's evolved into a whole concept; The Rock Lounge Singalong. Me, in a club, playing a big, curvy electric guitar with a little tube amp, distortion & reverb. I'm going the oposite way from Vegas. I want to play the Replacements, Violent Femmes, The Clash, Neil Young, Tom Petty, Ramones, Misfits, Tom Waits, etc. You get the idea.
Anyway, I was bouncing the idea off the bartender & the door guy at Footsie's and they said they were into it. Now, I just need to get it together before auditioning to club owners. I'd also have to figure out what to do for a small PA. I'm in no position to be buying anything. Imagine, I could potentially get like four gigs around town and screw the day job! No taxes. The tradeoffs might be worth it. Actually, I've noticed that this little project is already helping me play my own stuff better.
Let me know what you think and if you were at the club, what songs would you request? Johnny Cash? Firehose? The Pogues?
OK, off to read and work on my set.
Bleagh!

congrats on the new wheels. I don't know what trophy games Iowa is involved in [my guess would be maybe against Iowa St or Minnesota?] Michign and Minnesota have played for that thing since there was a riot at a game in 1903.
