I used to enjoy winking. It is a universal, non-verbal form of communication that can bind the winker with both an individual and an audience. Its like the "biker wave". When two motorcyclists go by each other on the road, they wave to each other to signify the freedom, danger and individualism that defines people who ride motorcycles. Its like a mystic bond between sender and receiver.
Ever since the VP debate, my wink has been missing. I don't want a VP candidate winking at me. My wink is a flirt, a tease, a "just joking". Strippers wink. Family winks. Kids wink. I wink when I am lightly teasing others. We don't wink when we talk about nuclear war. We don't wink when we are making a serious point. We don't wink when we are on national television and are representing an ideology that millions of people believe in.
So, I guess my question is...who will get my wink back for me?
