Today my heart is heavy and I am filled with uncertainty and hope that my new best friend Eve-a will get better. For those of you unfamiliar with who Eve-a is; she is a dog that found her way into my heart and you can read more about her in my previous blogs. My friends and I found her about 6 weeks ago wandering the streets twenty lbs. underweight with a nasty gash in her side. My friends and I took her to a local shelter for a free physical to check her state and at the time, she appeared to have a clean bill of health.
My boyfriend and I took her into our home with intentions on just getting her healthy until finding a better home but, after her first night over we knew we would have been fools to let her go when the best home for her was right with us.
After the third week living with us she had gained almost 16 lbs. but, I began to notice she had developed a coughing and hacking. She would experience some days of lethargy and disinterest in food and the rest of the week she would be fine. After the fourth week of continual bouts of the above I took her in to a real vet since I finally got paid and wanted to take her in to get her annuals taken care of.
We had the vet run a blood test this past Saturday and yesterday I got back results that I had dreaded. She tested positive for heart worms.
I am sad because as she has been through enough in her short life already and now she has to be put through this stress and heart worms can be fatal for dogs and cats if treatment is not administered early enough. The vet says treatment can provide a 95% recovery rate for the dog but it will cost $883.00 up front (and that's on the cheap side) which will need to be taken out of my student loans or savings.
I have already had some amazing support from many of you, and for that I am grateful. Please keep her in your thoughts or if you pray, then if you could keep Eve-a in mind that would be so special. She is not just my pet, she is my new love, my life, my best friend, companion, and all-around gem.

Get well soon Eve-a

I'm hanging in there. I spent some time at the shelter a couple of times this weekend, and celebrated my birthday by drinking myself silly (as if that's different from other drinking days!) Thinking about taking in a German Shepard that needs a LOT of work....
I get to be in San Marcos again this weekend finishing up the motorcycle teaching class. Should be fun, but I'm so ready to be DONE!!!!!
Take care!
