I have, for a couple of years now, found it increasing hard to find time to play guitar for pleasure. I only ever seem to play when I'm performing. If that sounds terrible or lame, it's because it is.
Aside from grabbing the acoustic for a few minutes here or there, I've also made an effort to start playing my electrics more. I love my electric guitars, but they've been incredibly neglected for far too long. It's different, playing an electric. That might sound obvious to some, but I think that a lot of folks just look at a guitar as a guitar. The dynamics are completely different, though, and I find that my playing style is quite different depending on which type of instrument I'm playing. I feel like a complete novice when I pick up one of my Les Pauls these days because I'm so accustomed to the way I approach my Taylor acoustic.
I'm committing myself to becoming less of a stranger to that playing style again. Step one was to get an amp somewhere where it's out in the open and I can't use "it's a pain in the ass to set up" as an excuse anymore, and now I've got a guitar out in the living room, plugged in and ready to go.
