My friend Amanda just got told that the school she is teaching at will not pick up her contract for next year, because "she does not fit the demographics of the students". What that translates to is that she is white in a poor predominately black school. I mean, when they hired her they knew she was white, so why is this suddenly a shock to them. It's not like she was going to become any less white. So now she is screwed because nobody knows what next year will look like, and even if there will be a need for teachers in the classroom or if it will start out as all online learning. So nobody will be hiring until the last minute. She's also the one that earns the majority of the money for them, so it really screws over their ability to have a place to live. so frustrating that North Carolina doesn't allow a teacher union. So far, it's the only type of union I see a need for.

I'm sorry to hear, this is a complete absurd! I hope she can be fine.
