Phew, I took a long hiatus from SG. The Hospital and ensuing things took me out for a while, then I got out of the habit.
So I'm finally watching some of those Classic SciFi movies that I picked up on one of those massive 100 ScfFi movies for a low price. I already knew they would be horrid, but they are great for playing in the background while I do other stuff. So far today I'm watching:
The Incredible Petrified World, 1957 B&W.
2 men and 2 women board an experimental diving bell and get trapped under the ocean in caves filled with air and light. Meet old man who is also trapped down there, escape when another diving bell rescues them. Except old man. He was evil. Favorite lines:
Rescuer: "How long was he without oxygen?" (referencing Diver2)
Diver 1: "A few minutes."
Rescuer: "Okay. I have some coffee. That'll fix him up."
Ahhh, coffee, solves every problem.
Queen of the Amazons. 1947 B&W
A woman and her companions go on an ill advised safari to find her love, who was looking into a little ivory poaching problem. A very disinterested narrator tells of the journey. Missing man falls in love with Amazon "white she-devil", searching woman falls for crow-toting guide. They are bedeviled by mangy lions and tigers who seem embarrassed to be in this movie. The women agree to swap men, tribe-on-tribe violence, the village is burnt, But it all works out when the men save the day, rescuing the women (cough), get married in the jungle, and the "legitimate" ivory trade can now continue. **sigh** Poor elephants. Favorite Line:
Guide: "How do you know so much about what happened?"
Amazon Queen: "You not two days from village when jungle underground bring word of you."
Wow! They have a underground jungle movement. Very bold!
I think that's all for today. Tomorrow I'll try to bring you more fun stuff.
