I wonder if the second one would work with a white background. It's less busy in the upper right with only two colors, but the text doesn't jump out nearly as much as the black background and the face in the center. The cropping on that makes it easier to recognize as a face, which is good for the purposes of an advertisement.

I prefer the second one. It's a mix of class and kitch. I like it. The black background fits in well with the black, red, and white image at the center. The green and white in the upper right, along with the purple in the left, it makes for a good mix.
