So I'm a whole lot calmer today.
I'm loathe to lose the community I've been a part of here but I'm still pissed off and I'm still going to speak my mind (and possibly get zotted for it). Here goes:
Firstly:
About 6 weeks ago, SG's Management decided to archive my very good friend Miesha for the following stupid and petty reason: she posted on a thread in MySpace that she was possibly going to check out a halloween party that she had been invited to by an ex-sg. It was a party being thrown by a competitors site. The thing was, it was in LA and the only reason she was going there in the first place was to visit close and current SG friends. I can personally say for the record that she had zero intention of leaving SG and zero intention of posing for another site. She was in fact excited at the prospect of becoming one of SG's official photographers. The only reason she was interested in the event was because she wanted to party with Dusty.
Still, they apparently took her interest in possibly attending said party as a heinous deviation of loyalty and archived her with no warning and no recourse.
Their loss.
At the time I was pissed off but she told me not to worry about it and not say anything that would potentially get me kicked off. She was also hoping they'd listen to reason and see a misunderstanding for what it was.
They didn't and wouldn't.
Again, their loss.
Secondly:
They went and zotted Hethral for sending an email through someone's contact tab to the effect that he was looking forward to seeing one of the archived girl's work on another site. (he missed having her here)
Aside from being incredibly stupid and petty, it confirms that SG management reads your emails being sent through the contact tab.
It's also a really stupid business move. For starters, instead of getting to hang out with his community here, Hethral now has to convince as many of his friends on SG to come over to a competitor's site so that he can have his community back. If they'd simply stayed true to their stated policy that SG Members would not be penalized for checking out other sites, they'd still have him and all his community here.
Which brings me to my next point: I've only been on the site for a year but I've been a huge supporter, I've bought memberships for people and convinced many others to join, I've hosted SG parties and organized events or outright paid for events organized by other people. I've renewed peoples accounts when they've gone grey just to keep the community together. Several SG sets have been shot at my house. Didn't know that, did you?
In other words, I've put time, effort and money into this site and the community here - especially in Vancouver.
My contributions utterly pale next to Hethral's over the years. He's bought dozens of accounts for people, renewed them, helped out people he hardly knew - heck he drove for 6 hours each way to move Posh and her boyfriend at the time (also a member) from one city to another - even though he'd never met them in person. That's the kind of guy he is.
He's been a mainstay of the SG community here in Vancouver and is loved by many all across the site.
The same goes for Miesha
And they zotted him and archived her. For 2 incredibly neurotic and small-minded reasons.
These two aren't the first and they won't be the last. I've been hearing rumbles of discontent about similar activities across the site for a few months now. What I think SG Management is failing to realize with their knee-jerk approach is how the bad vibe they keep creating reaches a critical mass and communities start falling apart. In the last 6 weeks I've received messages from 7 people saying "so long, I'm outta here"
A wackload of my friends are grey and other people I used to converse with regularly are grey, archived or zotted.
SG Management, if you care about NOT losing to the competition, take care of your greatest asset first: your community.
That said, go ahead and zot me. If you do, I'll know it was time to go anyways, if you don't I'll assume you haven't seen this post and reserve a tiny little spark of hope that some of it actually sunk in.
