The Keep (1983)
So tonight I was looking around Netflix for a movie to watch and came across The Keep. It has a cover that reminded of something I saw in a nightmare and the credits were fantastic. Directed by Michael Mann and staring a kick ass cast such the likes of Jurgen Prochnow, Gabriel Byrne, Scott GLenn, Robert Prosky, and of course Sir Ian Mackellen! Also what drew me in was that it fit into one of my most favorited sub-genera of World War II movies... that of the supernatural kind. Nazis and monster stories work hand in hand in my book. Essentially this movie is about a bunch of Nazis who take over a castle keep in Romania. Much to the surprise of us watching we see a greedy Nazi (is there really any other kind?) try to steal a sliver cross that is embedded in the wall. Which by the way I love in these movies because not hours before he does this does an old man say "NEVER TOUCH THE CROSSES!!!"... movie/life rule learned... never doubt an old man who gives crazy warnings. So young greedy Nazi boy awakens an ancient evil... worse Nazis come in to try to police the situation... they call on Dr. Ian Mackellen to give answers... Scott Glenn's eyes glow... Jurgen Prochnow and Gabriel Byrne fight tons... OH! And the evil demon/golem like thing kills a bunch too! I never like giving away endings... EVER! But all in all I thought this was a fun, interesting movie. It was dark and moody and also full of some great acting! So check it out! Free on on instant watch!
