I just found a vacuum cleaner in the alley. It looked old...I took a closer look...It looked fifties. I swiped it. It still works!
Turns out after some research, its actually from between 1973-1978...but its by a company whose vacuums have not changed in style very much since they first started them in 1946. So though NOT a genuine fifties vacuum, it is still easy to get parts for and looks the part well enough for my liking. I wondered about the flowers on the side, it looked kinda 70's, but you can't always tell. Often times 70's and late 50's have a lot of similarities. This is the company who makes them, the Tristar Compact. Mine is a Model C-8, which looks like:
It needs a new exhaust cover, as well as the power head and brushes. But. It was free and its pretty!
I'm a HUGE vintage/retro dork...its pretty bad. I now have a vintage vacuum (which, btw, work a shitload better than modern ones when they aren't busy spitting the dirt back in your face), a vintage (genuine fifties) handmixer which is pure chrome, and a vintage bonnet hairdryer. On top of a TON of Pyrex dishes, 3/4 of a tin counter top set (tea, coffee, flour, sugar thing; missing one), a 70's ice grinder, a few older style baking dishes, a full fifties snack set as well as 3/4 of another vintage snack set....plus...a bunch of other random things. Haha. I buy anything as long as its old...I'm so weird.
