It's a fact that most accidents happen in the home. Today I contributed to the statistics and ended up with a broken front tooth and a black eye. Even though it hurt and I'll probably lose the tooth, I had to laugh at myself for being such a fool. I'd been doing some research and had stacked a few books on the floor beside my desk. Then the door bell rang and in getting up from my desk I proceeded to trip over the books and dive headlong across my study smashing my face into a bookcase. What made me laugh was the manner of my tumble, with arms and legs flaying all over the place in my vain attempt to regain balance. For some reason images of a Tom and Jerry movie came to mind, with poor Tom doing one his improbable contortions after being tripped by Jerry.
When I eventually got to answer the door I was both laughing and moaning. But the postman failed to understand the humour of the situation and thrust the package into my hand without so much as a "You alright guv?"
But my laughing has stopped now the pain has started to bite.
.
PS/Update:
Friends can display a sick sense of humour. A pofessional associate dear friend came round for coffee late last night
to hear my accident story. You should know that we are also old school mates and former co-classroom pranksters. True to form my friend immediately latched onto the funny side of my injuries. He is aware that I have some very important meetings coming up. When I told him the damaged tooth was now quite loose in the gum, a very large grin appeared, "So there you'll be half way through the meeting making an important statement and that tooth will fly out across the table..hahaha".
