I'm not a fan of having to wear the equivalent of an electric fanny-pack for the next 24 hours. Not a fan at all.
I get to wear an "Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitor" for 24 hours. It sucks. It looks like a fanny pack. It makes a fucked up noise every 30 minutes. I'm just gonna stay home tonight.
And now the back-story as to why I'm here and having to wear this contraption.
Roughly 3-ish years ago I started developing migraines. Then they became more frequent. Then even longer in duration and even more frequent. To the point where my life was one big migraine. (If you've never had a migraine, consider your ass lucky)
I had gotten to the point where i was popping 20 Tylenol Extra Strength and 20 Advil Extra Strength Liquid-Gels just to make it thru a day. They just took the edge off it.
I had gone to the doctors a few times about this all in the effort to well, not fucking hurt anymore. Doctors. Gotta love em. He prescribed Zomig. Real bandaid fix. At $15 PER pill after my medical coverage paid for the rest, these fuckers weren't cheap. And they certainly only masked the pain which wasn't wanting to go away.
I got persistent. I got second, third, fourth opinions. Until one doctor did 'the basics'. He gave me a physical. Thats when he noticed my Blood Pressure was 171/110. He freaked. I freaked. He told me to immediately avoid all salt for the next 2 weeks, gave me a temporary perscription, and told me to find a family doctor for more long term monitoring.
Yep. Turns out I have Hypertension. aka, fucking high blood pressure. Here are some possible reasons:
I put salt on EVERYTHING. I eat salty foods. A LOT. I dont exercise. But what it also was, is that one of my ventricles or whatever pumps too hard.
I have been taking a pill a day for about 2-ish years to maintain my pressure. It dumbs down the overactive ventricle, and my BP is now usually 120/80 or less.
But, he wants me to improve my health and other things so I can wean myself off needing pills if possible. So thats why I'm wearing this thing-a-ma-jigger. It gives a fairly accurate reading of my pressure throughout the day. (Versus me checking it here and there, or him checking it)
Hopefully one day I'll never have to pop a pill to make my heart act dumber. Quitting smoking is step one.
That was possibly the most boring thing you could have read, I'm sorry for that, but hey, its just a little slice into who I am.
