Lately I’ve been grooving out to the multifaceted beats and soaring emotions of Latin American music. And yes, I know, I blew another Friday new music day… but I have an honest excuse. I became lost in fascination with the latest EP from Sophia Kourtesis - Peruvian born, honed by the Berlin school of avant-garde house party scene - and if her music sounds like she’s been all over the world, she has! Add to this an even greater atmosphere of incorporating snippets of tracks and beats that she’s picked up along her truly global musical journey. And I also must be honest, there’s something just so damn sexy about a Latina expressing the highs and lows of her personal life in the ways Sophia portrays.
So… it took me a minute - actually a few days - to adequately translate her spellbinding lyrics… eventually just surrendering to her magical voice and excellently produced rhythms, and coming to realize I’d have it no other way to enjoy any sweeter.
She sits down with NPR RADIO to share the important meaning behind “Madres” a track off her new EP launched last week on March 17th. Enjoy 🎧
