Found a “Herkimer Diamond” in the gravel mulch bedding around the bushes out front of my motel room. Had it checked out. About 7.0-7.1 on MOHS hardness scale ~ a genuine diamond tops out at 10.0, so... but this is genuine clear solid quartz with a clinging layer of Dolomite, and has clumps of perfect natural 18 facets on its surface. They're sometimes called Hobo Diamonds. Usually found in gravel mines and caves mid to upstate New York and northwest New Jersey. This one maybe worth about $150 in raw form. Up to $600/carat if polished and even more if cut into gem pieces for jewelry.
Was repotting some of my houseplants, and simply looking for some small gravel chunks to use as ballast in a solid pottery flower pot that doesn’t have any drain holes. Sunshine bounced off it nearly blinded me!
Life’s good 😎
