Two major things happen on Friday 22nd May this year. First off I will turn 40 (Yeah) and the second is that Ireland is holding a referendum on the Marriage Equality. This in the case of a YES vote will mean Civil Marriage for Gay and Lesbian people.
I know that Gay/Lesbian Marriage has over the past number of months been in the news with different state in the US with many bringing into law the right for these people to marry.
I will be so happy and proud to turn 40 and vote Yes on this day. I have many friends who are gay and some even gotten married in ceremonies over the past while but this would entitle a couple to have the same rights during marriage and if one of them died as a man and woman have. It would also allow them to adopt children which again I 100% agree with. Being a catholic country the Church and bible bashers are all against it. On about a marriage is between a man and a woman for the purposes of procreation. (Always remember a episode of Modern Family where Cam and Mitchell are talking about there adoption of Lilly and I think one of Cam's comments is "You know who else had a mother and father.... Hitler)
The fact that we still in so many ways live in the dark ages saddens me having 2 small children. I believe that one generation is supposed to try and make it better for the next.
Anyway as I said looking forward to the birthday but in some ways more looking forward to casting my vote. Just to make you laugh here are 2 of the 3 posters that the NO side have put up all over the country.
