I was dating a girl many years back who worked for the Guide Dogs for the Blind and suffered headaches 24/7. She told em about this condition shortly after we met and at the start everything was fine. I used to go out each Friday night to meet my buddies for a beer and because Good Friday and Christmas Day are the only 2 days in the year that bars are closed I every year would meet up with 2 of my buddies in my parents bar for a beer or two (Maybe More) the night before - Holy Thursday.
This 1 year I told my girlfriend that I was going into town to meet with the biddies and she said that I should be out with her minding the dogs. Explained that every year I met up with the guys and that I would see her the next day after I finished helping my family clean the bar from top to bottom. She was not happy. As I was up home and about to head in town I got a text on my phone to say that she loved me and that the pain would be over soon. Didn't take a genius to work out that something was wrong. I jumped in the car and got out there in no time. Went through the downstairs work area and up to her room. Door was locked and she wouldn't answer the door. Managed to find one of the other people who worked there and got the door opened. She was out of it. Could hardly talk. With her headaches she had been changed from 1 medication to another trying to sort her out so she had loads of leftover stuff to take. She was not a small girl but I managed to carry her down the stairs and out into the cold. She was in a t-shirt and knickers. I thought that the cold might help to wake her up. Kept slapping her ass with no effect.
Ambulance was called and I managed to get to the hospital before her. As I waited I had to ring her parents and tell them the she had tried to top herself. Her home town was nearly 3 hours away from Cork. The worst phone call I have ever had to make. Long story short she made it through but tried another 2 times to kill herself. One of those times was in Cork and thats a story for another night and the other time was back up in her home town.
I dislike Holy Thursday nowadays because it reminds me of another time.
