♥ i was at crystal pier the other day and i saw dolphins swimming. HOW AWESOME IS THAT? i am quickly becoming the hugest marine life nerd. living on the pacific coast is pretty much the best thing ever.
♥ i went camping in the desert! it was fun. the stars were about as bright as they are on my family's farm (which is to say, quite bright). luckily no one got bit by rattlesnakes or stolen by coyotes. i was the last one awake: 7am! it was SO hot that no one could sleep and we made it home by 10am. the area between julian and ramona is really beautiful. here i am at about 7.15 am. this is an unprecedented time for me. i am a sleep-in queen.
♥ there is a new addition to my household!
♥ today i may do the most american thing i have done yet: go to a baseball game! i definitely need a nap before i leave the house. i was up way too late missing canada but i had a good conversation with my mom today so i feel better about being far away.
♥ my mom has three siblings and about six weeks after i was born, her younger sister also gave birth to a baby girl! unfortunately, her sister was seventeen so she gave the baby up for adoption. i've always wished (selfishly, of course) that the baby could've been kept because there is no one close to my age in my family. about a year and a half ago the girl contacted my aunt, and she has been very interested in participating in our family. this week, after years of waiting, i have finally started talking to her! she is really cool. an odd coincidence: all the girls born in that side of the family for 10 years have had the initials a.z., the
adopted girl included. that is not too amazing until you consider that her adopted family is responsible for her name, not her birth family! five of us a.z.'s were born in a row! i don't know why my family likes that combination so much but no complaints here.
♥ today i watched a documentary on the bermuda triangle. i used to be really interested in phenomena like that when i was 8-12. i kind of forgot about the b.triangle until today when i saw the t.v. show and i realised: i flew through it on the way to + from the dominican republic!! how rad!! i mean, i know it's far less mysterious today since technology is better, but apparently mysterious things still happen. this could be because the magnetic field around the bermuda triangle is weakening at a faster rate than anywhere else on earth so it's likely that causes instruments to fail when they do not otherwise. anyway, i am happy to have made it through alive!
♥i went poking around some tide pools yesterday. that was really cool! i saw some crabs and anemones and picked up a couple really shiny, pearly shells. it was mega fun!
♥ bees are awesome.
even thoughi am allergic to their stings i still regard them very highly. they are interesting and mysterious! everyone knows that they do a little bee dance at the hive to show where the honey is but i read a book that discussed the dance. it depends on the speed and rotation (i believe) of their dance, and those two variables combine to communicate both distance and direction. animals are so amazing! i love how little we know about the natural world. knowing i have a lot to learn is a great feeling.
