There are moments
While walking down Valencia
While leaning against a weary tree
While sitting in a SOMA cafe
I feel fiercely connected
to a stranger
And I imagine I can guess
the skein of their whole life
Based on their choice in beverage.
Then there are times
When you all seem
like nothing more
than clever simulacrums
Evolved heuristic stimulus engines
And then I think
there must be a vitamin for empathy
That I haven't got enough of.
I should eat some beets or something.

I like your poem, btw.
And beets are yummy. Did you ever read Jitterbug Perfume by Tom Robbins? Makes me want beets.
