Getting the relevant background in mathematics and logic to understand, even at a crude, simplistic level, the nature and structure of infinity and all the related realms opened up by modern set theory: difficult.

Trying to explain elementary mistakes about the infinite to students with absolutely no background in either logic or mathematics: infinitely more difficult.

The payoff though is having those one or two...

Are you a mathematician? Is set theory your specialism? My brother is very into set theory and number theory, he just finished his first degree in mathematics. Regarding the publishing stuff, you are probably correct that it's more of an excuse rather than a justification but with everything else that comes into play I think it's still good.

I have not posted in a while partially because no one really reads this and partially because I have been busy trying to fake Munchausen's syndrome, with little success.

I have landed myself back in my homeland, and I am at a bit of a loss about how to move forward. Life has basically been kicking me in the nuts repetitively, and I am trying to figure out how the hell I should be guarding my crotch, as it were.

While your comment alone was great (I did love it), I'm embarrassed to say I've never seen the Blues Brothers in its entirety! And I'm in love with Dan Akroyd, it seems so wrong. frown So this was a good waitress moment or did they just break into song...or was it both?

mneylu:

I hope your summer is going well....

thanks for the love on my set violette!

Hey
Nope, no real problem with airplanes, i can pop my own ears pretty easily so it's just goes away- the pressure I mean. I know that I will have (sp?) Tenitus? Ear ringing... but i know it goes deeper than that..

Oh no, I'm not allowed to complain TOO much due to the pool situation and the fact that I spend my days reading and swimming. It has its costs but we'll see how long before I go insane.

Yes, I'm aware that Gainesville is a happening place! I have friends from there (that I met by the time they'd moved away though) and have heard a lot. I wish I was closer.

I'm not that negative you know. I just knew it would be an amusing post for all to read.

How's things treating you?

the days they do fly by...
things are middling to fair, and I suppose that is not something about which one should complain. I have a big project on the horizon which is getting started finally.
on a random note, I am really diggin the numero group's eccentric soul series. I have three volumes of it now, and all of them are top notch...

I was pleased with the only Oscar award I cared about this year...DDL.

I still haven't seen No Country. Do you know when it's schedued for DVD? I'll renew my Netflix then. There's a lot I missed out on last year, too...

Thank you for remembering! I appreciate it. I found an office gig selling vintage clothes for an Ebay store. I love all things vintage, so it's interesting for me. Paying the bills and interesting.

How are you doing?

hohum.
I have not felt inspired to write anything here for awhile, and I suppose I only do so now because I am rather bored and about 3/4 of the way into a bottle of whiskey.
I have spend a good deal of time thinking lately, and none of it makes sense.

everytime a new day dawns, the sun always has to set.

That's the great thing about Daniel Day-his delivery. Doesn't matter much much what he's saying. But feeling or wanting to feel violent at work is just bad. Let's avoid that.

I don't know why I like to follow the Oscars so much. There have been some good recent winners, like I was happy that Phillip Seymour Hoffman & Forest Whitaker took the last 2 years. I'm looking forward to this one...if the actors will come!

Since you compared NCFOM to Fargo, is it also funny? I just got the idea for some reason that's its really violent. I don't want any spoilers, though, I just really need to see it finally.

I kept reading so many rave reviews for Yuma that I just assumed it would be leading for awards. I'm surprised nothing, zilch. I enjoyed it. It was a good Western & Crowe is just great in it. Ben Foster was amazing supporting. I defintely recommend it.

Next time you get irate at work just think of someone like me who has been out of work for some time-I WISH I had a job to make me angry right now. Very, very seriously. For now the unprofessionalism I've been reaping through my job search is enough to make me dream of slashing throats in the night.

For the Oscars I only really remember the last 3 years. I felt that Brokeback Mountain (I remember being really pissed about it!) got robbed but for the next year, I did feel that The Departed was entirely worth it. I didn't see the original but read that Scorcese did not either-he based it only on the Infernal Affairs script. If that's any consolation to you! I loved it so much & was happy with the outcome.

I've never seen any trailer for NCFOM! I just know I have to see it. I get the general idea. Javier Bardum is gorgeous too! So I just must. It would definitely be a treat for myself to celebrate getting a new job (seeing TWBB was my treat for quitting smoking). Ha.

Yuma is a remake as well. Contrary to what you think about it being lost in the Oscar shuffle, it was actually the first to lead off the Oscar flood. It came out in Sept. Maybe it was too early & thusly how it was so easily forgotten.

it is finally cooling off and raining from time to time. this puts me in a much better mood.
work is going very slowly. although I should be focusing on this one project, I keep finding other things which are not it that I want to work on. I think that these other things are enticing me, at least in part, because I do not...

The children I teach are very young, but it is so nice seeing how excited they get over something as silly as a sticker. I believe it does work, because the children who did not receive stickers would start following directions, and doing well to catch up with their other students.

Who knew the secret this whole time was stickers?

I don't know what I would do if "goolicious" became an adjective to describe something I would want to eat. Possibly live off gummi bears for the rest of my life.

the heat will be the death of me...

on the bright side, though, I get to leave town for a few days and go get into some trouble...

then again, I think the heat is worse where I am going...

damn it.
