Yesterday @lyxzen assigned us a blog homework assignment: What are your holiday traditions?
Well I have a very strange tradition with a funny story for you all. So my dad has always been obsessed with Lord of the Rings. He was always a fanatic of the books, and you can only imagine how happy he was when they started making movies. So one year I decided to be a great daughter and buy him the collection of all 3 movies, extended editions.
I knew he'd like it, but it turned out he liked it a little too much. He was so ecstatic that he exclaimed right there that it was now a father-daughter tradition to have a LOTR marathon with the extended trilogy every year on Christmas Day.
Now, the extended editions are much much longer than the theatrical versions. That's an understatement actually. I'm talking 12 discs, and almost 12 hours of run time for the three movies. Whew, you're joking right? Don't get me wrong, it's not that I don't adore these movies just like he does (in fact, this entire little story is the meaning behind the LOTR tengwar writing I have tattooed down my spine š). But who really wants to spend 12 hours cooped up in the house watching dwarves killing orcs on Christmas Day?
Needless to say, the "tradition" wasn't carried out every year. So now instead we'll watch just one movie each year, or snippets of the movies. This year, I'm hoping we'll go see The Battle of the Five Armies in theaters to celebrate our tradition.
Hope you all enjoyed reading about my strange holiday family tradition, can't wait to hear about yours! š
