Dear Diary SG,
I've been thinking today what to write. I mean, what do people write about on this site? I've been reading journals, but it's not so streight forward, I think. Some people write about their day, their life...a few random lines, maybe. My life is a fucking mess, it'd depress the shit out of the site...bring the whole site down karmically. So, I'll refrain.
Something sort of occured to me, though:
I'm watching one of my favorite movies on the hotel movie channel, Heat with Robet DeNiro and Al Pacino. At the end of the movie, the Robert DeNiro character has to decide whether to stay with his girl, or run from the cops. Of course, he runs and leaves the girl looking after him with a sort of shocked look on her face.
Which made me think - why is she so surprised? He didn't flick a switch and become someone different just because she walked into his life.
Which brings me to an interesting point.
People are what they are -- they do not change. So often, people walk into a relationship thinking they'll bring out the best in a person, make a person a better person...whatever. It just never works out like that. You are what you are. Good, bad...the whole ball of wax.
In my humble opinion, people just do no change. Not in meaningful ways. Someone may give up a bad habit, but I think they remain and always will remain essentially the same person. Once you hit a certain age (it varies I think between people), that's it.
