So we are back from the weekend of fun. And yesterday was a lot of fun. Dustin and I and our friend Joel got down to Dustin's dad's house around noon. His aunt and cousin from Indiana were there and the cousin's boyfriend. His cousins from Grand Rapids were there as well. We all lounged around in the backyard, taking in the nice day, teh sun and the river.
Someone went and rented us all tubes and we piled into the cars and took an hour long tubing trip, ending two houses down from Dustin's dad house, so we could just walk home through the neighbor's backyard. It was great. We saw lots of fish. Pretty much everyone except me got sunburned--tanning paid off I guess.
Jessica, the Indiana cousin, and I hit it off and talked for a long time about everything. Everyone was sitting around, drinking and talking and just having a chill time. We ended up cooking out around 8:30--we were all starving and a lil drunk at that point.
All was going well til my friend and her boyfriend who I cannot stand showed up around 10 pm without warning. I felt kind of bad because we had all decided that we weren't going tubing again on Sunday since it was sort of expensive, everyone wanted to head home early and everyone was sunburned. I tried to make the most of it by organizing an IHOP breakfast, which seemed to be a well-liked idea. Then those two, Joel, Dusitn and I got in the tent to sleep. The dreaded couple were being extremely obnoxious, whispering when everyone else was trying to sleep. He even tried to pursuade her to have sex--right there in the tent with all of us next to them. I wanted to get in the car and head home right then. I mean, come on--we're all here for some good, clean fun, we are in Dustin's dad's yard--cut the immaturity and have a little respect for everyone else.
This morning, Mr. Boyfriend was still being an ass. You could tell he didn't want to go to IHOP but wouldn't come out and say it cuz she loves the place and wanted to go. They ended up telling us they'd follow us to Grand Rapids to IHOP, which is about a 25-30 minute drive. They didn't though--they turned the other way and presumably went home--I don't know cuz they never answered their cell. I pulled over and asked Joel if they were behind us and he informed me that they had turned the other way. I was pretty pissed because comeon--give us a heads up so we aren't waiting around for you. Plus, we were going mostly to make them happy so they didn't make a wasted trip downstate. Otherwise, we'd have chilled at Dustin's dad's place a bit longer and hung out with the out of staters.
So the three of us ended up going to GR anyway, grabbing lunch and shopping around a bit.
I absolutely refuse to invite that boy anywhere again. He is too damn immature and self-centered to be invited to public events. I won't deal with his whineyness any longer. Yes, things did not go according to plan, but the rest of us were trying to have fun anyway. I'm pretty sure he whined that he didn't want to go until she gave in and just went home--that's the standard way it works with him.
He has never been a friend of mine but I've tried to be civil and include him for her sake. No more. I may lose a friendship over it but that guy is rude and disresepctful and I won't put up with it. If she wants to, that is her business. I probably won't make any effort to call or see either of them. I certainly won't go anywhere with him again. If I can hang out with her, that's cool. Their relationship is just so twisted and sick--I keep waiting for her to wake up and get out.
Enough of my ranting though--lets focus on the fact that yesterday was FUN and Jessica wants Dustin and I to come visit her and her boy in Indiana.
And I still have two days off.
I'm going out with a couple of co-workers on Tuesday for dinner and drinks. We all seem to relate very well at work so I'm kind of hoping to make some new friends--my old ones seem outdated at the moment (except Joel and Megan, but she's two hours away). Its hard in this town to make good friends because its a college town and the emphasis is always on going out and getting wasted--its easy to find people to do that with. Its harder to actually make friends, especially since I'm older than the college crowd.
