i'm so jealous of you and your access to good beer. my choices are extremely limited; one of the only chinese beers that has more than 2% and consequently what i've been drinking is called blue power... apparently beer made by smurf supremacists.

i know the feeling. both the free-floating anxiety feeling and the i-could-do-without-this-anxiety-but-i-suddenly-realize-that-it-doesn't-occur-as-often-anymore-and-for-that-i'm-thankful feeling. yup.

so.. china. when was the last time we caught up? i can't remember. it's been a while. so, uh, i moved to australia with lemonkid. we were struggling with the job situation there... he mentioned this to one of his facebook poker buddies, who is teaching english in china... this friend mentioned that the school he works at was looking for new teachers... and, well, in less than a month later, here we were. it just kind of happened. and so far, so good, though we haven't had much of a chance to travel around much besides hong kong.

so... yeah. what's new with you?

Same here. I've seen basically every film Bogart has been in, and it's probably my favorite film of his. Doesn't get nearly enough recognition. That and High Sierra.

I chalk it up to youth on my part. Who the hell knows where you want to live when you're 16? Still, it taught me an important lesson.

It's not an industry to be timid in, that's for sure. Behavior that would normally be shunned is seen as visionary or at the very least brave in this one. A bit of a hump in the road for me, to be sure.

How did all this start?

Your boys played a nice game yesterday, even though I was pulling for Va Tech for obvious sentimental reasons. Are you in the College Football Group? If not, you should be. It's where shit goes down, yo.

Also, I just came back from seeing There Will Be Blood. I'm not quite sure what I think of it. Clearly beautifully and painstakingly made and clearly wonderful performances (I mean, Daniel Day Lewis. Come on.), but I wanted it to be better than I felt like it was. I wanted it to come out and grab me around the throat like No Country and (to a lesser extent) Atonement did and it just didn't.

I read a few reviews going in that slagged it because the final act played for laughs (which, for the record, I think is a misunderstanding on the part of the reviewers) and I didn't really have a problem with that... I just wanted a better story. I wanted it to pick me up and leave me breathless and it just... didn't. It was kind of like Zodiac in that way. A+ for film making, B for storyline.

Oh my, that is bar none my most loved Lisa.
