"What ethnic background are you?"
I can't believe how many times I've been asked that since I've moved here. I don't look any different than "normal" people. I am not obivously black, or Spanish so everytime I get asked that it makes me wonder how much of a freak I look like to these people. I'm almost 70% (ish) German. The rest English and French. Nothing else. My family has only been in this country for two generations. I grew up speaking German, but do not have an accent. Yes, I put a pickle ornament in my Christmas tree. And I do celebrate Oktoberfest. Shut up people why do you care?
We got almost a foot of snow yesterday and more to come tomorrow. The fire company has a Christmas party tonight and I'm not so sure how I feel about it. From what I hear, it's like High School. There's a "clique" that Mark is not a part of, the chiefs and everyone else. I have to make a good first impression to the wives that all have children older than myself. I have a feeling I am going to be the youngest person there by far. I have already been warned that I am fair game to the other firefighters there. Nice.

another funny thing about being German: those lightning bolt tattoos i have are often misconstrued as being neo-nazi symbols. i've gotten so sick of being asked about it that any more, when ppl do ask, i just reply "well, i AM german"
