I actually got quite a bit done today even though I slept till noon.. It was nice to sleep in though So anyway... I've finaly finished my website, well at least the brochureware portion of it.. HPC Technology Consulting is finaly online and somewhat functional! Woohoo! I have to say it's not bad for something I threw together in 4 hours.
Aside from working on the website, I met with a client today to discuss another project which involves some really high end audio/video equipment. I'm such a snob when it comes to audioand it really comes out when I'm talking to a client who knows what high end audio is. This woman had actually listened to the Infinity Reference Standard V which is among my favorite speaker systems.
At roughly $50,000.00 it's not exactly something most people ever have a chance to hear. I actually have a funny story about this particular system and the first time I had a chance to listen to it..
A few years ago I was pricing in-wall speakers for a job and decided to head over to one of the finest audio/video dealers in Chicago. The salesman took one look at me with my multicolored hair and all, and asked me what I was doing in his store. I laughed and handed him my business card and the project plan for the job I was working on. We talked for a while about several speaker companies and then he told me there was something I had to hear... I walked into the listening room and saw the system I had only seen pictures of before. These things fucking rock!!! I of course had to use some of my CDs to test them, which caused the sales guy some discomfort as most of his potential customers wanted to hear classical or something more laid back. I insisted that we listened to Pink Floyd's Dark Side Of The Moon, RL Burnside's Tribute To Fred, and whatever Front 242 disc I happened to have in my shoulder bag. Right about where the song Brain Damaged came on off the Pink Floyd album, the senior salesman/manager came rushing in like WTF? He was afraid we would chase away the other customers. Well... ok... so I was listening to it REALLY FUCKING LOUD, but it's Dark Side Of The Moon! You have to listen to it loud, right??? So anyway, the manager thought I was wasting their time, but I proved him wrong by purchasing $18,000.00 worth of in wall speakers and subwoofers for the client. Now I'm an audio snob, but these guys crack me up! Judging me by my appearance and my music... fuckers! All I can say is if I ever have an extra $50,000.00 just laying around... I'm buying a set of these speakers! Untill then I guess I can always dream....
Well, it's 5AM and I've got to get some sleep so I can get up at the ungodly hour of noon and go to work.....
