Today has gotten off to a rather slow start... I'm supposed to be meeting with a client I've been chasing since early October and I'm pretty nervous about it. I actually got my hair cut last night and dyed it all one color! It's kinda like this... when you have hair like I used to, clients will either think damn he's good! if he can get away with looking like that, or they'll think this guy's totally out to lunch! I'm tired of having to live up to my hair color/s. So almost $70 later, I've got hair that's still not "normal" but it's close enough for those clients who really care about the way you look. Obviously I really want this client if I'm willing to go this far. Hey, at this point... that 20 thousand dollars is worth more than my hair!
I REALLY need to get this project! It's a huge bookstore in Old City Philadelphia. I'll be designing and installing the internal network, inventory system, point of sale systems and a wireless hotspot for the customers. I'm offering them a discount in exchange for allowing us to photgraph the job for my website. I think I'm more excited about having it on my website than I am about the amount of money I'll be making from the job. Well, that and the fact that I get to work with new technology. I'm such a geek! I get to play with biometric security equipment, like thumb print scanners and stuff! It's one of those jobs that reminds me how much I love what I do.
Ok.. so why am I so nervous about this client! She's been sent 50 proposals and out of those 50, she's most excited about mine! For some stupid reason, my head keeps telling me I'm gonna mess something up! I don't get it. I think it's the pressure of having to live up to my reputation. She called the client who's name I gave her as a reference and apparently Richard told her I was amazing. Dammit, now I've gotta live up to it!
SO aside from that job, I've just contracted an awesome technician, but I still need to hire a couple more computer geeks to take care of my smaller clients in Philly and New Jersey. It's really hard to find people who are good AND willing to work part time. Well, that and willing to work for $25/Hr. When I was still in school, I was happy to make $25/Hr, but I can't seem to find anyone willing to do it. It's not hard work either! It's basic stuff like virus and spyware removal, maybe even a small home network. You would think that with so many people out of work, I'd find someone who would jump at the chance!
Well, time to get ready for my meeting... I really hope it stops raining by the time I get downtown.

I'm crossing my fingers for you to get the job!
