"The world can be a scary place sometimes", I tell my son.
'How true that is,' I reflect silently to myself, 'more frightening than a six year should have to comprehend.'
My father is ranting again, about the conspiracies and the injustices of the world. Everyone thinks he's crazy. Well he probably is crazy, but it amazes me always how everybody can just sit and tune him out while he goes on and on. I've been his captive audience more times than I care to recollect. He truly frightens me, not just because of the change that's come over him and his apparent disconnection from the rest of the world, but it scares me that as much as I try to deny everything he says, write it off as just crazy talk, that there might be some tiny bit of truth to what he says. You see it occurs to me that in this issue just like in many other issues, such as the struggle for my immortal soul, I am a fence-sitter. That's right I've said it. I really have no idea where I stand on the creationist vs. everyone else struggle. I've declared myself solely in one camp, but the truth is in this issue, as well as my fathers, that I just don't have any evidence to dispute these theories. So what it really comes down to is that my father and the creationist zealots might be right, and that truly makes this world a very scary place. It's really more than any man with a family should have to comprehend.

If it helps any, my fabric softener is the downy vanilla/lavender stuff (in the purple bottle).
