Sup Ya'll?!
I had another uber killer weekend! I ventured into the heart of Tokyo, got some kewl pictures, chilled in a park, tore up Roppongi and then hit Fuji-Q Highland Park today with some of my buddies. And holy hell did a wave of awesomeness from ya'll ever come crashing in this weekend! I hope I didn't miss anything, been trying to keep up on my phone after hours at work, which was pretty crazy too.
My adventures began Saturday morning, I headed down to Shibuya train station to take in some of the sights and find this really awesome statue of Hachiko. An infamous Akita here in Japan that met his master at the train station everyday and kept coming til he died after his master had passed on. The Japanese loved him so much they stuffed him and put him in the national museum as well as putting up this really neat statue. The original was scrapped for the war effort during WWII but the one there now was made by the original artists son. The statue is also a very popular meeting spot, though it's so packed this seems like a terrible idea unless you have a talent for parting crowds. The Square there is really famous too and has been in a few movies to include The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, it's also crazy packed, even the cross walk is a giant scramble lol.
I took pictures of this really gorgeous Okinawan gal and her mom (I think lol) and she took this one for me = )
see crowded!
a nifty nearby wall frieze with Akitas in it
the crazy scramble square
crazy hot dog...guy?
smile!
Some really kewl street art I found taking the scenic 360* route to find Hachiko lol
So after my little visit to Shibuya to kill some time I went to Yoyogi park to meet up with my new gal and wander around some more before meeting up with her friends for a picnic in the park. I got tourist trapped by some douchy buddhist monk guy. Dude just kinda walked up to me, put a prayer bead wrist band thing on me and gave me this little shiny amulet that's supposed to give you a lifetime of peace...uh my job is to try to maintain that for everyone else so really impractical for me. Anyway he then wanted a donation, so I gave him all the change in my pocket, he started pointing in his book some of which was in english but didn't really explain much, and basically wanting A LOT more. I gave him some cash, still not enough so I gave him a 50 to fuck off. Didn't bother me too much at the time, but really rubs me the wrong way. They really only go after clearly foreign folks and I found out talking to the guys back at the station they can get you in trouble with the police if you don't donate after you touch the thing they push in your face. I had three more come up to me, separately, later when we came back for beer. I'm not particularly thrilled but I figure I'll pass it on to someone else that might actually have use of it.
My gal caught up to me after that and we headed toward the Meiji Jingu shrine in the park, which was really super awesome. It was also a really nice walk with lots of kewl stuff along the way. This worked out in our favor quite a bit cause her friends took forever lol. Lunch was great, the gals made us lots to eat, we tossed around a frisbee, and we all played some badminton. Hadn't done that in ages! Then we drank up, did some karaoke (really terribly lol), and then tore up Roppongi for a bit!
The epic gate entrance!
It was so big with the right angle all the people disappear!
JEEEEEEEEENNNNNKKKKINNNSSSSS!!!!!!! uh *cough* sorry couldn't help myself >.>
That's a lot of saki!
Outside of the shrine
inner courtyard
the prayer tree
the pray at tree, I thought it was interesting how the two trees where bound with one small to huge rope thing...it's like the worlds ball of biggest twine somewhere in the midwest lol
A fancy wedding procession that passed through, kinda nifty
The cleansing shrine on the outside, exit side. I drank the water lol
The well of Kiyomasa, apparently it's super famous and supposedly brings good luck if you make it your phone's background. It was pretty kewl but not particularly interesting to me. I got yelled at by the policeman cause I was taking a picture of a bird that was super close, didn't turn out that well = \
Japanese LARP'ers!!!...maybe lol there where people stick fighting, playing music, singing this park was crazy packed and fun = )
lunch was super fun we tossed around a frisbee and played some badminton, hadn't done that in ages!
So that was really great, the trip back in the morning was a drag though. Caught the first train back to base at like 5 am. Made it in with some time to spare but I'm definitely not planning on doing that again soon. Sunday was pretty mellow. Then today it was on to Fuji-Q where we tore up the three world record holding rides, on for being the tallest at 71m, one for the steepest drop at 121* and the other for the most twists. It was a blast, we caught all three and did the first two again but one of our guys started to lose his lunch and then he lost it, which was really wrong funny but we couldn't help but laugh. I'm never letting him forget that hahahaa.
the bathrooms had some random funny stuff in them
I lol'd at this one
I lmao'd at this one hahahaa
Lunch was great though probably not our brightest idea hahaha. It sat well enough with me though! = )
giant gold kitties!
Photo bombed!
the first puke ride, it was only after the ride had ended though, he was right in front of me and a saw a small splash after his hand raised to his mouth...then he ran off and we all died laughing.
the second time...it was bad! = X
So that was my extended weekend! It was great and I had a lot of fun. Ooo I almost forgot some tasty meals we head this last week!
conveyor belt sushi!!!! Sooo good, desert was the best part. 15 layer crepe/icecream cake! = X
One of our guys whipped this deliciousness up on friday, nothin like having dinner with your 'family' so glad I dodged the surprise one stuffed with only onion! lol = )
So that's all I got...really! Now on to all you lovely ladies! I don't want to machine gun these out but I'll try and keep it brief, I have managed to enjoy them all and leave comments. These have been the cherry on my weekend.
