Hey ya'll!
I've really been enjoying reading everyone's 10 things blogs, it's fun learning random things about folks you'd likely never know otherwise, so here's mine.
1. I stick my tongue out when I'm concentrating really hard...which isn't often lol
2. I'm the strong silent type, I don't smile or frown often and consciously remind myself to smile when I'm out around lots of people. Unless of course I have something to smile about and/or I'm talking to someone. So people tend to think I'm really serious. My grandfather was the same way. It takes a bunch of muscles in your face to smile, just as many to frown (possibly more or possibly less, depending one what you've read), and none to do neither...so doing neither most of the time is just logical.
3. I wrote a song, just lyrics, when I was in college and depressed. Think Blink 182/punk rock/ska, opens like this 'Swirling around inside my head, thoughts are here gone then dead, sittin around wonderin what to do, while here or there or goin poo, there's not a lot I like about you!' Sounds something similar to this in my head as far as the instruments but with some brass. Everything comes in heavy like this opens after that first bit.
4. A few months before I joined the Air Force I was a paid extra for 'Feast of Love' that was shot in Portland. I was in some of the coffee shop scenes and drove by in my dark red nissan sentra. Which got stolen a week later, I hope whoever stole it drove it in reverse to hide their shame (makes me sad every time I see Gridiron Gang)! I was wearing a straw hat I'd taken on vacation and it had a hole in the top. They used me to block some of the back stage stuff cause I'm big, I still haven't seen it...til today (terrible youtube version with kurdish subtitles and none of the fun parts, cause it was there and I just to had to check! and doesn't quite count lol) . Find me if you can, I made the cut ; ). It ain't bad. Fun fact, they had us all say rhubarb and fake conversations because apparently it's the perfect background noise.
See it's totally NOT a porno! = P
5. The hole in my hat was from me sitting on it with my scuba tank in the boat while getting dive certified in Costa Rica. Awesome trip, I even got stung by a scorpion that was hiding in my wet suit. I think it was out of venom cause nothing happened, stung like crazy for a bit though. I tossed the little bastard overboard to sleep with the fishes! If you feel like taking a vacation and doing the same, I'd highly recommend these folks. There was four of us altogether plus two instructors, the instructor to student ratio was a lot higher than at the other places we looked into. (I've mentioned bits of this a time or two so I added a bonus). I had a lazy mohawk that I wore to one side at the time too >.>
6. I used to be really really shy, or at least thought I was (I'm a big introvert) and so I've done things I normally wouldn't to work on it. One of which was let myself be talked into doing a family friendly play by a gal at my church in my hometown. It was right after high school and I still had my long hair. The play was called 'The Bitter End' and it was a British murder mystery, we even faked accents. The director lady said you basically say kahnt instead of can't and wah'teh instead of water and just kinda go with that. Thankfully my part didn't say much, though I'm still unsure of what precisely a 'daft eight'nee' is. I was also the understudy for the main guy, but basically just to fill in for him at rehearsals cause he couldn't always make it. As a result she paid me in dark chocolate milky way bars! Wasn't a big fan of all the gel in my hair, that was just for the play.
7. I still have the hoodie vest thing I made for that and mostly just wear it at home to keep cozy. It's got safety pins down the front, one of my silly shirts pinned to the back and I used a survival knife to remove the sleeves and open the front. I wore it out when I went to that goth party Feb 15th this year.
8. I took ballroom dance and fencing for my PE credits in college. I'm pretty good at both, but really shy/self conscious when it comes to ballroom. I've tried to keep up salsa and have gone on and off, once while deployed in Iraq with a bunch of Puerto Ricans in the army and then at a studio across from my apartment in GA with a friend. My retention is pretty bad beyond the basics. The ladies love it and they always need guys, it's also a good cardio work out and lots of fun. My favorite style is waltz, it's like ice skating but without the ice...and with a girl. I was part of the fencing club for awhile and stuck my tongue out more than a few times. I did this often enough my now best friend would joke that I'd probably do the same thing during sex. I think he was at least partly serious lol
9. When I read for entertainment, which is sporadically, I read most books in 2-3 days, I get a little lost in them and they absorb all my free time. I even forget to eat lunch a lot and often space on dinner til really late, the whales in my stomach will remind me. Some video games have a similar effect but I usually lose interest after beating them or in a week or two. Some books I just can't get into though and will only make it a few pages in before abandoning all hope...or falling asleep.
10. I bagged my first deer 10 yrs ago this fall out with my grandpa. Dropped it on the spot about a hundred yards away with my first shot. My grandpa walked me through skinning and dressing it, soo much more fun than biology class. Venison is one of my favorite foods, I ate it's heart on my 21st birthday.
I tried to avoid repeating anything similar to what ya'll put out there even if it applied, so this one is bonus. My name is Jonathan, but I go by Jon cause the rest is a mouthful. It's an interesting quirk of my family I suppose. The first born son is always named David, but they always go by Dave and are listed that way in the phone book, there's usually a few in most major cities (at least out west). My grandpa, my dad, my brother all of them, we even sound very similar on the phone. So people got terribly confused when they called for my dad, got me, then got mistakenly passed to my brother and then finally spoke with my dad (we don't do any of that silly sr, jr, the II, the III nonsense, at least officially). When I lived in Boise another Dave with a similar age to my dad passed away, my father's employees freaked out a bit when he came into work that day lol. As far as I know I'm not directly related to any of these other people, perhaps waaaay up in the family tree somewhere idk, that side of my family gets really fuzzy after my grandfather. I never found this particularly strange, til I read that one Chuck Palahniuk book with the two brothers who where raised in a cult family where the first born was always named Adam. I googled my family name one time and discovered a town in AL (I thought it was some dude named Al til I clicked one of the links), thought about checking it out, a road trip there with my brother is on my bucket list. They even have a special day, which I found out when I met a dude wearing the t-shirt with my last name on it...along with a crazy bearded red neck geezer with a buck tooth. He was in my squadron in GA and it was at our flag football practice. The world is such a strange place.
Also wanted to share this crazy awesome video and a disney gender bend (really awesome art) I found on my fb feed. The video starts kinda slow so keep watching you won't be disappointed.
