Any day with range time is a good day. A friend of mine just bought his first rifle so I had to take him to the range to break it in. I set him up at 100 yards and was quite impressed at what he could do, nothing outside of the 5 inch ring. The good thing about new shooters is no bad habits. My club has steel targets at 300 yards and I think turned him onto a new addiction. He went through 60 rounds just shooting steel.
I was using my spotting scope to see where he was hitting and after a bit we changed places and he got to see the bullet trails that I've been watching, nerdy but cool.
I brought my 300 Win Mag. because he was asking about it. I have a love hate thing with it, its light and very accurate but its light with a shit ton of recoil. I shot it 5 times and let him shoot it once. It took only 1 round to get across why I was steering him away from buying a magnum.
Next year I'll probably have a new hunting buddy.
