I'll be the first to admit that I was never the big fan.
I didn't collect his records, but it seemed that everyone I knew had them and loved him to death. I was always impressed with his original and somber style of singing and song writing though...it was definitely the best of its kind, especially for the times. Even better was the fact that he played all of the instruments on his records himself.
As I listen to him right now, it's incredibly sad to think that he won't be around to bless us with his music any longer. I do have a smirk though every time he does one of his fantastic key changes or hits a wonderful harmony out of the middle of nowhere....as sad as it is, I'm smiling because it's still great.
Thanks Elliott.
