Feasted on the carcass of a corporate record store today. 15 cds for $45. Not bad at all.
It's been years since I heard any Dead Kennedys records. I'm not sure I realized back then how incredibly dark Frankenchrist is. When I used to listen to it, I always was reminded of spending a rainy day at my grandparent's house in Wisconsin. I used to think that was just because I had listened to the tape during such a visit, but am now beginning to think the album just invokes depressing negative imagery.
Editted to add that I just remembered that my mom took away my Frankenchrist tape when I was in 7th grade. She found it and flipped over the use of 'prosthetic penises' in the lyrics. Good thing she didn't find my TSOL 'Dance With Me' album. (I wanna fuck the Dead!") or my Let'em Eat Jellybeans comp with the classic Feederz song "Jesus Entering From the Rear." That song almost made my young athiest self believe there was such a thing as blasphemy.
I found the tape in her drawer later while rooting around for Christmas presents. I replaced the cassette with a Beach Boys tape. I still have the case-less Frankenchrist tape. I should ask her for the case back.

the album itself is very dark and it took a while for me to realize it, too. "a growing boy needs his lunch" is pretty much a suburban dirge and "stars and stripes of corruptions" remains my lamented matra to this day.
god bless the dead kennedys.
and please take ted soon.
