Almost a year later. And it was a pretty great one. Still killing it.

Be kinder. Work harder. Take more chances. Not new years resolutions, just how I'm trying to live now.

Posting some of my favorite 2011 music over here.

Tyra banks came into the market where i worked about a month ago and I had a slew of questions that I was prohibited from asking her on the grounds of not being an asshole. It sucked.

Hey, do I tell YOU what to write on YOUR birthday?

Also, thanks. smile

Advice for those who want to get things done creatively:

1: DO THE WORK. Can you look yourself in the mirror at the end of the day and say you did the best you could?

2: BE THE BEST POSSIBLE VERSION OF YOURSELF. Don't shortchange yourself or pull your punches because of some negative internal voice.

3: WRITE DOWN WHAT YOU NEED TO DO. It...

Maybe it's just because we've been agreeing so much, but I really love your posts on the boards. You're funny.
thistle:
Also I keep clicking on your profile at periodic intervals, intending to say something, and then reading this blog, and getting all JUST DO THE WORK and closing SG. So, uh, thanks.

So, that year happened.

2011: Be more like the END of 2010 and not like the beginning. Thanks.

Seriously, I can't complain. The second half of 2010 was really amazing. I spent one of the best summers of my (adult) life, then started what has turned out to be an amazing job. Sure, I don't live in the place I love the most, but I...

It's (new Dirtbombs) different. Walking into it with the expectations I brought to, say, Dangerous Magical Noise or even Ultraglide would be uncomfortable. The tracks I like I really love, but there's a few on there that just remind me of why I didn't get really into house/techno the first time around. It's plenty chewy, this album, I'm going to spend some time digesting it. Sad news is, doesn't look like they'll be touring in support of.

If you haven't had a look, yet:

Well I met with my lawyer tonight and we took each other on a brief tour of our block. He'll be joining me later for karaoke @ my former co-worker's bar to check out his new spot as he has no desire to return to 45th & Baltimore again.

Can you buy me some form of Batman hat? This teenager I know wearing one in his FB profile told me to go stick it, that it's 90's vintage and not for sale. Far as I know 90's isn't even vintage, son.

Still writing. In extreme hermit/living in the middle of nowhere mode. Hopefully some good work comes from it.

Some of what I've been into lately:
Stoner by John Williams.
No, it's not about weed, Jerry. Just a really simple book about a teacher in a midwestern university during the Wars. So good that I started it again when I finished.

Pain It Dark--39 Clocks...

Reset button pushed.

How's it going? Well, I'm posting from OKLAHOMA, so that should answer your question.
Probably going to be here half the year for a while too.

So, I've got some free time. Writing a lot. Hopefully, something very good will be coming from this. Fingers crossed, peeps.

Band is still active. Show when I'm back in NYC this December.

Listening to (most...

Actually, I'm glad you flaked rather than thinking a neighbor had it. I'm now saved from knocking on doors.

Resending info.

Saw this post. And was woefully unfamiliar with the band, but now I'm totally digging it. So gracias. smile

Oh, and I took a pass on Tree of Smoke, I've just been re-reading the living shit out of Jesus' Son. I'm working through stuff I bought ages ago, including The Confidence Man by Melville and Chabon's The Final Solution, then I think my next purchase is going to be Johnathan Shaw's first novel, reading his stuff here has got me into him.

His work reminds me of Dee Dee Ramone's Chelsea Horror Hotel, which I'm going to go ahead and assume you've read. Any suggestions for other authors like Shaw/Ramone?

Going out of town for business or pleasure?
chris_sick:
For a minute I was sure you were saying you hadn't read either Chabon or Melville, but I'm just hungover.

Dee Dee's stuff is okay, pretty raw, much like his music, but he's got a good voice, and coming at it from a place of inexperience he's not afraid to fuck around and have fun, which is a nice change of pace from reading all those professional writers who learned a bunch of big words in college and don't write like people actually talk or think or act.

J. Shaw's stuff seems decent, but I'm just going by his blog: scabvendor.com

He actually reminds me of Pedro Juan Guitterez, have you ever read his stuff?
