O! Enchanted evenings! Last night, one of my bands, The Dashing Wildes, had a great litle show at Fat Baby. It was only our 2nd one. At first I wasn't really sure how well we'd done; I was very tired and most of the people there were our friends, so I knew they wouldn't say ianything too harsh. But the few people who didn't know us were SUPER enthusiastic! The bartender loved us (and that means a lot, since she sees bands all the time), and the upstairs bartender kept leaving his post to watch us. While playing, I thought he really didn't like us 'cause he kept leaving, but total opposite: he wants us to play a show with his band later in the summer! Yay yay super yay! We've only been together about four months, so having strangers respond so strongly is so meaningful.
While standing outside Fat Baby waiting for our ride last night, I watched all the hipsters, out-of-place meat packers and cool kids meander abouts, looking all fantabulous. I've been a scenester on sabbatical this past year, really only going out when I've been playing a show. And I missed it so much. I missed knowing people on every corner and having people recognize me. But the scene is kind of like a bike; it's easy to get back into!
I met up with my girl Sarah K at Welcome to the Johnsons, and we hopped venues from there...Fat Baby (no cover and caught the end of a great set), where I saw Lyle the bartenter and DJ, a really cool bouncer; schoozed to The Living Room, usually duddish in my book, but there was no cover and caught the end of another great set by this band The Snow! We were going to go to Annex 'cause I'd met the DJ the night before and she said she'd get me in free, but then we made a stop at my old standyby, Pianos. Yeah, sometimes it's annoying, but I love it still. I ran into one of my favourite bass players, Hannah of The Netherlands (formerly of The Twenty Twos). We had a nice chat, and then I went inside. The first band we saw made me regrettish over the cover, so we went out to the bar, schmoozing with patrons. The server, a very delish lad, was quite flirtaliscious even though I was ording non-alcoholic drinks. He complimented my band stickers (I drew our logo) and gave me my drinks for free. We went to see the last band, Valeze and they blew my mind! It was exactly what I wanted, high energy dance new wave-y rock with and amazing chick fronting.Ending the evening with vegan cake at Cake Shop..ah, deliciousness. I ran into a former guitarist of Mesmer, a band I'm friends with. Back in the scene!!
On the subway home, I was rocking out to my iPod, so grateful to have had such great nights. A dashing gent with a suit mit hankerchief entered the train, also seeming happy with his evening. We both got off at 125th. I complimented him on his hankerchief; he replied "I like your tattos." Score! Now I shall snuggle with kitties, wake too early, garden a bit and see my Dad. Yay!

Agreed on the Living Room being "duddish." Although, that front area with the window is a nice spot for happy hour drinking and sidewalk voyeurism.
