First the good news, I've gotten my orders sorted out and I'm going to be staying in southern California. Thats right sunny days, sandy beaches, the ocean, Disneyland, Sea World, The Wild Animal Park etc....
I put in a call to one of the detailers (the guys who post orders) only to find out that the reason that I had been unable to contact my detailer was because he was on leave.

The guy I spoke with was more then happy to keep me in southern California, as a matter of fact he gave me a couple of choices to choose from... Now comes the other part.
The not so good news:
SPOILERS! (Click to view)

1st Marine Division, Camp Pendlton California.
I know its not exactly the kind of orders I was hoping to pull but it was either there or 29 Palms

Its not going to be all that bad, so what I've got to go "green side" for a tour, almost every corpsman eventually does, so why should I be any different? The good thing about the location is that its inbetween both San Diego

and Los Angeles

. Even better then that its literally just over the hill from where the majority of my family in Temecula live.

Now comes the tough part, I have to get ready to go to school, field med school. Its one of the more hard core physically intense schools in the Navy with out being special forces. So for the next couple months (I've got 4) I'm going to be getting into the best shape I've been in a long time. I want to make sure that I am physically fit before I get there so the whole thing won't be too hard.

This of course may mean that there is a deployment in my future, and as of right now I can't say if its just around the corner or not. On the flip side I have been told that since I am a 2nd class petty officer (same as a Sgt. in any of the other American Forces) I shouldn't have things too difficult when that time does come.
As much as I had wanted to stay on the "blue side" of the Navy I think that this is going to be alright. I'm really glad that I don't have to worry so much as to where I am going to be based out of since I knew that I was going to have to go back to sea duty. This won't be quite as bad as being on a ship where you don't have any idea as to when your going to have to pull out for something stupid or some training exercise where all you do is make circles in the water for weeks at a time. Granted the deployments are a solid 6 months (as they would be on a ship as well) but for the rest of the time I am going to be home.
