Monday.... wait it's Wednesday but it may as well have been an extension of Monday two days running. Yesterday was some what of a cluster fuck. I had to make my weekly trip down to 29 Palms a day early this week due to a command uniform iinspection. For this drive I am required by a written instruction that I have to have an "A" driver with me since the drive is over 300 miles. (Can you imagine having to drive the same 400 mile stretch of desert highway every week?) My command in its great all knowing wisdom decided that they were going to try and send a non-licensed "A" driver with me this week. When I called them on it they told me that I would have to wait till 7 to make the run, that would put me back at around 6 if I'm lucky. To make a long story short I did get my way and was able to get an "A" driver that had a drivers license and we were able to be on the road before 6. Lots of people wonder what difference leaving an hour earlier makes, all I can say is that there is a lot of traffic on the roads and it can make almost 2 hours worth if traffic is really bad since it's just early enough to avoid morning and afternoon rush hours (yes even the desert has them, you don't want to get stuck behind big trucks moving at 55 mph for 60 miles)
29 Palms today was another screw up of its own magnitude, rather then have all the new computer systems we're getting put in shipped directly to the clinic they had them shipped to 29 Palms to they could make sure that we were actually getting the computers before shipping them to us. Lets just say that it was a good thing that I had taken the back seats out of it to bring up the new servers (another we have to see it first thing) a couple weeks before. To make things a little more interesting we have a fellow co worker thats doing some training down there and went to lunch with him. About 1/3 of the way back to China Lake I got a phone call, he had forgotten his wallet in the van and wasn't going to have enough gas or money to make it back unless we broght it back to him (add 2 more hours to our trip). Now I'm not getting back to the clinic till almost 7:00 and I still had to unload and put stuff away. WEEE FUN TIME NAVY!!!!
