DING DONG LONG GONE.... DING DONG LONG GONE.... DING DONG LONG GONE....
Yup it's zero three thirty in the morning, time to get up and get a move on (I opted for the extra half hour of sleep) and man is it way too god damn early to be going in to work.
Yeah sure with a fucking smile on my face I greet the day... Oh wait sunrise isn't for another couple hours Shave shower and out the door by zero four, still no sighn of light in the sky to the east. I cruise into work with the geek lights blazing (oh yeah 35 watts of pure halogen power) through the front gate and to the clinic. I let myself in to find a ton of extra shit on my desk that wasn't there before that needed to get taken down on the run.
I load up the Ford Explorer and get everything ready to go, it's not even quarter to five and now I'm waiting on the passengers to arrive, and waiting, and waiting..... I thought that I said on the road by five, not loading up and leaving the base by 5, and what the hell happened to the 15 minutes early rule? I guess that it doesn't really apply to officers and chiefs
Well let's just say there was no buzzbomb going down the highway at 110 mph, no squeeling of tires and definatly no Lawrance Welk cranked up to 10... It was like a Beck song only different Two Commanders and a Chief out of uniform. The bastards (ok I'm pretty cool with my chief and one of the Commanders is the shit) made for a bit of an uncomfortable ride in the Explorer.
The whole day was a cluster fuck, almost everyone that I had to do business with was at the change of command function and I ended up having to wait for the whole thing to wrap up to get anything done, and even that was like pulling teeth, the whole hospital was essentially shut down and people were bouncing left and right. Inspite of the odds I still managed to get almost all the things done that I needed to do. The ride back was about the same as the ride down, only a bit better since the conversation was steered into more a more social direction. I just put the hammer down and drove as fast as I could.
Now after a bit of a mixed emotion conversation I'm heading home for the weekend. Well gotta go.......
