i just managed to find wheat bread... praise be to the gods of whole grains. (sidenote about buying baked goods in japan: there are bakeries every block and a half, but not one of them sells anything but white, crustless bread in packs of 6 slices. where do the end pieces go? and i've had loaves of that stuff in my apartment for a month without it going stale... that ain't right. and what if i want to buy more than six slices? the woes are endless...)
i've been feeling rather writerish lately. i love bursts of creative energy. it's very sexual for me. ooh, my article comes out in next friday's edition of metropolis magazine in tokyo. i am truly a professional now.
so i'm in the beginning stages of planning my trip around southeast asia after i finish up here in july. i've joined the travelers group here on SG, whose members are some of the most brilliant and experienced people i've met, and learned a lot... basically it's a toss up between being a relaxed lush or a courageous backpacker. i've got two months. one idea is to start in bangkok and work my way over to angkor wat in cambodia, down to ho chi minh city in vietnam, up to hanoi, through laos down to vientiane and around thailand before returning to bangkok. sounds amazing but i'm feeling like a giant puss after reading about malaria and giant insects and food poisoning and riding a train for ten hours with no air conditioning. or i can just bum around bangkok and spend a couple weeks in phuket lying on the beach and drinking pina coladas out of coconuts. i'm hoping to be able to do both, but i'm a total chicken shit right now...
clearlii, sorry about never catching you on aim. i warned you that i'm never around when it's convenient

i am blanking on the name but they have all manner of hearty German bread and rather reasonable prices.
