What news?
Well, last night I got to see a rather kick-ass show at a renovated club outside of base. The owner decided he had enough of owning a place that was getting run down and making no profits with the usual juice/lady companion scheme. So, he went ahead and had the place re-done, including a new stage, sound system, etc. He then contacted pretty much everyone in the vicinity of Songtan that could play or knew someone that could play, and watched a bunch of bands form up.
One of my Squadron-mates plays a terrific guitar, and he helped set up a cover band with a very good bassist and a rather decent singer from the base. They found a Korean kid that doesn't speak a word of English, but can play the drum part from any song, on demand.
So, last night we had our first live show since I got here. Awesome stuff! Old punk covers, new shit, all played well enough to fill the house up. Bear in mind that none of these people knew each other for more than 96 hours, and that one of them didn't know what the others were saying. The whole experience was so surreally (?) good that even now, the morning after, I have a hard time holding on to it. Soon as I get my camera back from my accompanying friends, I'll see if I don't have any good pics to post.
I changed my profile pic, due to (I guess) my upcoming departure from S. Korea and subsequent return to N.C. Once I get there, I imagine I'll be shipped out as soon as possible, and I guess I just wanted to get used to the idea of me wearing battle-rattle again.
I think I might try to cab it to the big city for a fancy dinner tonight. I might even try to find a dinner date--for some reason, I feel like dressing nice and having some vino with a nice lady. Weird.
What else?
I'm trying to not think as much about the attack in Spain. Everytime something like this happens... I don't know, it just really affects me. Sounds hypocritical coming from a guy in my line of work right? There's just no... order to it. There's a difference, however small and silly, between war-- and the base fucking knowledge it gives you that danger is imminent, and just watching people get shredded around you, not knowing why.
Anyways. Best to you and yours, and try to stay safe in these "interesting times", as the Chinese would call them.
