I'm technical support for an 90% Mac shop, and there is nothing for me to do (since macs are so stable. This week I have literally: fixed a suck "6" key (whack the ckeyboard a few times), scrolled someone's screen to the left (they couldn't see an arrow), canceled an order that accidently went through twice.). Monday, I added about 40 pictures to my background...

I love you! kiss And I miss you. As much as you know I adore my mom, I'm not sure I'm going to be able to survive a whole week out here. surreal I hope you're having lots of fun. Oh, and on a side note, you remember that song that you said would make people cry? My mom cried when she heard it. You're so smart. biggrin

I just got back from Calgary. Went to C2K3, the annual Hackathon for OpenBSD.. 8 days of hacking and alcohol. Plenty of non-sleep happening. I leanred more about the internals of Unix machines, and how the dynamic linker (ld.so) work. Kick ass.

I received a neat tee-shirt from it. Gave instructions to a cabbie (or a local) to send us to the right place if...

What did all of that just mean? lol
phessler:
Well, the short version is: DARPA (Defense Department's Research funding arm) had agreed to give OpenBSD 2.3 million dollars for a 2 year contract. That contract is up this Fall. Theo de Raadt (the leader of OpenBSD) was interviewed about this grant, about 3 weeks ago. During this interview he made some anti-war statements ("I sleep better knowing that this means half a cruise missle won't be built"). DARPA heard this, and pulled the money. Every May, there is a developers conference, of which I was invited to go to (It started today). DARPA contacted the hotel where we were to be staying, canceled the reservations, THEN contacted the OpenBSD group. The cancellation charge for this event? 80%. And DARPA will not allow us to cover the remaining 20%.

I reccently switched jobs. See, I live in San Francisco, and I was commuting out to Pleasanton, every day. I hated it. 20hours/week commuting, that is a real part-time job at some coffee shop or somethink. So, I post my resume up on CraigsList, and this guy emails me, and says he may have a job for me. I respond, and check it out, and...

My laptop is broke to shit. Really, really, broke. Fucker won't boot. You press *power* and it looks at you and laughs. But I'm smarter than that. I ripped her apart, poked and prodded. Didn't fix her. Fine, I'll replace the PMU. Hmm, it's attached to the mainboard. Lets see how much mainboards for an Apple Tibook cost. $1300!!!!! eeek

Fuck me. Lets chec eBay.

WOO!...
