So my surgical date came......... I was in the O.R. and my last thoughts there were of peace and calmness as the nurse who wheeled me in to the O.R. showed me HIS scar from a surgery quite comparable to mine. He assured me that although it would keep me hunched over for a few days, that it would be no worse than anything else I had previously gone through. Well, Fuck all that...... I ended up waking up in ICU (Intensive Care Unit) due to a laytex allergy with a tube down my throat to help me breath. When you can't speak and you don't know what happened to you, it's not the most calming experience, especially when they hit you with the news that they are going to jam ANOTHER tube down your throat. To be quite honest, the whole experience was very humbling, situations like throwing a towel off your face 'cause it is interfering with your breathing and being mistaken for attempting to pull your tube out of your mouth will do it to ya. Not so much the being mistaken part, but the part where the nurse feels she has to sedate you, and since my hands are already restrained, when they pull the restraints harder and shoot your ass FULL of drugs so you fall into a nice chemically enduced nighty night, that to me is a pretty humbling experience.
So I finally get over that (about a week or so stay in hospital) and I get home, and my poor legs are freaking out. When you are in a wheelchair and your legs don't usually do all that much, it gets quite uncomfortable when you're about 10 days post-op and your legs are firing (spasming) uncontrollably. So smarty pants me decided to do a little stretching, and a little stretching turned in to me breaking my femur (your thigh bone). After a few x-rays it was decided that I need to be in traction for 4 weeks......... thank god that a well educated doctor got a hold of my case and decided it would be much better to put a pin (approx. 8-10" long) in my femur and have done with. A one hour surgery turned into a 4 hour job 'cause the doctor found out that I had already broken my femur (a long time previous to the new break) and it took him a while to line up the bone before the insertion of this pin!
Well.......... here I am, one broken leg and a near death experience later. It's all coming back together slowly, but surely. It helps when you have a WICKED Mom and a bitchin GF who's got your back no matter what the fuck you decide to do to yourself.
Ah well, enough for today............. need to get my busted ass outta bed and get some sort of day started..........
