My darling, Draciav, used to be in the Army and I remember all the crap he had to go through. It's the same shit: they're nice to you to get you to enlist, then the rug comes out from under you and you're treated like a pice o' poo for the next 3+ years. Just hope that you don't get injured and need surgery. Military medicine is some scary shit, even at Walter Reid, where the Pres. supposedly goes.

1. You have no reason to feel guilty. You did nothing wrong by hanging out with a friend of yours, especially a friend that may have been a near-victim of physical abuse by your other friend.

3. There's no reason that the original agreement shouldn't go through just beacuse you aren't friends anymore. Just move up the deadline on the decision. No matter what, that's a lot of fundage to just let some dude keep because he's grumpy over you talking to his ex.
4. If you're this worried about lawsuits, then make sure you always have at least one other person with you when you call him/talk to him in person, and better yet, communicate in ways that allow you to retain documentation. Email, or even a certified letter can be retained for your records.
