Goddamn it. Missed the last train to the city.

My sleeping habits (a 4 hour nap every 8 hours or so) are really starting to put a damper on things.

In other news, I think I was Henry Miller in a past life.*

-*Ok so there's 5 months of life overlap, but whatever.

Or . . . you have an oddly increased capacity for brilliance on Saturdays?
legionnaire:
I think you're spot on with your analysis of geek fantasy. It is masturbatory in a lot of ways - it's much easier to play a game where you can pretend to be a viking warlord with a hammer or justice or some crap like that rather than actually getting off of your ass and doing something to improve yourself.

A lot of my friends have geek tendencies but have enough redeeming social qualities to counterbalance them. That's fine, in my opinion, it's the obsessive aspect of geekiness that frightens me and is unhealthy.

And I have to say that I'm insanely jealous of your sleeping habits - if I had the opportunity I would totally do the same thing.

The worst thing about being unemployed (besides that nightmare where your student loans and credit card statements grow little arms and legs and suddenly swarm to stab you in the eyes, face and ass) has to be when you realize you haven't actually talked to a person in a couple days.

And then, without realizing it, you go on one of those catatonic Cartesian headtrips...

What sort of work are you looking for?

I know it's probably not much consolation, but that period after college when you haven't found a job yet is one of the freest times in your whole life. You can literally do anything. Enjoy the possiblities, while they're still there!
tangledupinblue:
you forgot E:

Ride the rails, sleep in a field, drink coffee out of a tin can, learn to talk to horses, be written off as the artifact of a dead era, until one man who believes in you brings you a smallish, headstrong, chestnut colt and an oversized jockey and together, you inspire the nation during a time of incredible national agony.

If you're in a war, instead of throwing a hand grenade at the enemy, throw one of those small pumpkins. Maybe it'll make everyone think how stupid war is.

And while they are thinking, you can throw a real grenade at them.

saw your HST quote on the Droppin' Acid topic.

ever read his letter he wrote when Nixon died? it's classic HST and reassures us that he survived his cocaine years relatively intact (though it's worth noting that his volume of production has dropped dramatically...but what can you expect of a senior citizen who still drops, and has since the 60s, LSD and drinks like a fish).

RNC 2004 has come and gone (for me anyway).

Missed the march but made it Monday. I was honestly surprised at the lack of destruction and violence. And even more taken aback by the snooze-inducing civility of it all. (protesting permits, friendly police, people saying "excuse me" as they walked past, WTF? Where's Jerry Rubin when you need him?).

So there I was among the...

Yeah, the protests were relatively tame. Which I'm happy about - the last thing I would want is for the protest movement to create more propaganda fodder for the Republicans.

Thanks for the happy birthday. You noticed the fortuitous timing of my posting my wishlist? I don't think it worked.

I love your new profile picture. Is it creepy of me to say it makes me want to ruffle your hair? Because...yeah.

National Lampoon's Eastern European Vacation is finally over.

Have you ever had a book that you read at different points in your life? Say in middle school, then in highschool, then in your 20s. And each time you read it it seems completely different, right? But really, it's just an indicator of how much you've changed.

And so it is with visiting your distant roots....

Wow, that's depressing, I'm sorry to hear it. I blame NATO. We made it our mission to topple communism, gave big support to Lech Walesa when the solidarity movement started, then completely abandoned all of the former soviety countries when they were no longer our enemy, to leave them floundering away in a capitalist world they weren't particularly well prepared for. Bummer.

Back from Florida.

What a crazy adventure that was. And how completely necessary.

Cruel circumstances in the last year had forced me to undergo an all too precedented transformation towards robot dom.

Forseeing this eventuality, I booked a ticket a month or so before complete robotification. Making my way down, I had *no* idea why I was going anymore.

Thankfully though, the doors of perception have...

sounds like you had a good time, or at least a necessarily mind-clearing time on your trip. Off to Poland?

"You're like a chameleon," she said. "You blend into your surroundings and take them in. You play the roles just to see what they feel like. You take them all the way."

"...almost," I replied.

"But you can't take anything seriously," she sighed before slowly looking up at my blank expression, a tinge of familiar longing crossing her face. "You're soooo apathetic."

She stares for...

Ah Florida. After many months at home in Connecticut it's hard to imagine how I ever could have gotten sick and tired of nice weather, beautiful sunsets, and good friends.

But it still is what it's always been to me. An Island of Lotus Eaters (well a peninsula anyway). A fine place to feed every possible appetite as you idle away your last days.

But...

After months and months at a job that filled me with an overwhelming urge to escape (my job, my body, the country, etc), I'm starting to get the feeling I overcorrected.

So now that I quit last Friday, I'll be going off to Florida for two weeks to see friends and then later in August will be off to Poland to see family.

As is...

Another weekend in NYC.

A few movies, a birthday party, a BBQ. The rest we'll make up as we go along (that's the schizophrenic, not royal "we").

Fourth of July is one of the few holidays I can really get behind. Knowing that, despite their horribly unsafe reckless nature, fireworks are legal in almost every state gives me some hope.

Maybe "fun" still means something...

Oh no, not the trains! Anything but the trains!... whatever

You're a big boy, I'm sure you'll manage. Just let me know what your plan is.

And I still don't have my computer back, so I don't have access to any messaging clients right now. If you want get in touch with me in real time, you'll just have to call me. Life is tough, I know.
