Travels Abroad, Part 6: Bush Can Bite It

Unfortunately, we missed what must have been a wonderful demonstration in Scotland. It was probably March or April when we were in Edinburg, but they still had this poster up. Not to mention a giant peace sign of dead, brown grass marked on the front lawn of some important building. Who knew you could make a...

Beautiful pictures and stories. I've got the travel bug in me, but I've had to take travel bug antibiotics to calm the little sucker down. I always try to keep a travel journal, but I'm never good about writing stuff down, especially because I write and read very slowly by hand. By computer it's different though. I can type out a whole mess of stuff because I think nonlinearly and I'm able to cut-paste and insert everything so it's properly comprehendable.

The Me'Shell album that I have is Peace Beyond Passion. At first, I was a little put off by her song structures, but it grew on me, and I came to appreciate it as the work of her well-honed personal style, and inspired me to seek my own voice musically.

I'd like to check out the albums that you mentioned, thanks for your detailed takes on them!

I believe that many people can find in them a means for creative expression, but every person is different and has to go through their own process to uncover and hone their creative virtues. I myself can't draw worth crap. In high school, my friends were forming a nirvana cover band and I was relegated to the bass. I was bummed, but when I picked up that sucker, it was love at first pluck.

I heard Bush speaking to a group of senior citizens regarding his pharmaceutical plan for seniors. I won't go into the story since it's pretty involved, but after some of his patented rambling that made it clear to everyone that he had no idea how this program worked, he went on to say:

"well, you don't have to sign up for it if you don't want to."

I heard this and my head totally asploded.

Today, a hodge-podge.

Beyond the ridge on the left, you asked me what I want,
between the trees and the chirping by the shading pond.
I spent and hour with you, should I want anything else?

Reading: Cavedweller (Dorothy Allison)
Listening: "Sixteen, Maybe Less" (Calexico/Iron & Wine)

Nothing WAS as good as the original Law & Order. Then Jerry Orbach died. I was so sad when that happened. frown

I'm being super careful about who I'm going to meet. It took me a number of months to actually meet Jeff. I intend to take things really slowly with anyone I find interesting. I won't even give my email address out until we've covered ground in the eHarmony open communication thing. Of course, that's always assuming things even progress with people. They are thus far, though. I've got four or five active matches at the moment, two of whom opened communication with me. Makes me feel all fuzzy inside.

Getting my hair done is the only nice thing I ever do for myself. I always make sure that, in addition to my bills, I have money to do that. Of course, this month my mom footed the bill. I don't really know why...

Twin Peaks is awesome. So was Requiem for a Dream. I don't have the soundtrack, but I've always heard wonderful things about it. I'll probably pick it up sometime in the nearish future to see what all the rage is about.

Well, this was a long comment. I'll close with your questions again.

Reading: The same thing as last time
Listening: Assorted Front 242 songs
Writing: A new story! It's only in its really early stages, though. And I'm editing a really old story.
Eating: Blackberry Harvest Yoplait.
Smelling: My yogurt
Feeling: Hopeful at all the job prospects who now have my resume and/or application
Wishing: That I'll be able to go to Lollapalooza again this year

I'm afraid my summer time sleeping bag stories now consist of digging a sleeping bag out of the closet so one of my kids can sleep in it after pissing the bed.

...what a difference 20 years can make eh?

Now tell me a good story damnit!!

I was going to comment wittily on this past weekend's White House Correspondents' Association Dinner, but it has been a few days and most everyone who cares has probably already heard about Bush standing shoulder to shoulder with a shameless impersonator and Stephen Colbert trashing the president to his smiling face. I would never have seen it (because I never plug in the tv except...

I`ve been on the site for quite a while now and find that you really can come to know people through journals and groups.

Or at least a sense of them. Most local groups have organised meetings with no problems. I haven`t heard any horror stories anyway. smile

Keep well

I'll admit it. I eat frozen food once in a bloo moon, but I buy it with the express intention of saving it for busy nights. As in, not gonna eat unless it takes two minutes to heat kinda nights. And even still, I try to be discerning - none of that alfredo creamed lard crap. One of my favorite brands is Green Guru,...

Ha! I don't think you'd want me as your personal chef, I do the same thing as you and end up eating the same few things over and over. Avocado sandwiches, cereal, smoothies, soup & salad are what you'd mostly get. smile
I do like to try new recipes, but only when I'm in the mood, which isn't as often as I like.
I always fantasize to my friend Mike that if I ever win the lottery I'm hiring a live in masseuse/greens chef. smile I love vegetables, but I hate cleaning, cutting & cooking them. I guess I'm going to need to start buying lottery tickets for this to happen though. biggrin
Hope you're having a great weekend!
p.s. I like to sniff old books too. smile

Have you read Richard Bach? It is all great, however if you have not, I reccommend Illusions. That + Neville Shute's 'Round the Bend are similar stories told two entirely different ways, and both make me so happy.

And yes, I am that type of person -- however I am exceptionally kind to my books (once I have read a book, one can hardly tell it has ever been opened), so for the longest time I would put a bookmark on each spot, rather than underlining/highlighting. So I have a lot of books fat with a lot of bookmarks. Now that I have found a highlighter that does not bleed through the pages, I use it.

That is a very large hail stone. I've never seen one that big here.

I'm with ya on the getting in shape thing. Tell you what, you get in shape and I'll keep eating chips! deal?

Mmmm...Indian feast. The last Indian feast I had was a trip over to my cousin Lard Ass's house for some Moose meat. I had to keep smacking his pet racoons hands off my plate!! Ahhh memories.

Of course he's native Indian not East.

HolaGatita: where do you shop??? (goddamn lame midwest...)

Hi, yes, I am lucky enough to live in the very veg friendly Seattle area. Don't you have a Whole Foods there or any health food stores? :-(
Trader Joes maybe? You need to get your ass to one of the coasts. wink
Mmmmmm Indian buffets are gooooood.
Nice hail, but it looks like dim sum. smile

All the small things,
all the thousand things I wanted to say

I'm going to take another break from my travelogue because my head feels like it is floating in a mason jar full of vanilla pudding. Had an awesome interview last Wednesday for an assistant editor position at a magazine I was (briefly) an intern for - but, friends and neighbors, it turns out the editor in charge who interviewed me wants to marry me!...

Travels Abroad, Part 5: France

I was an admitted, open Francophile from middle school through college - occcasionally mistaken for being French by native French-speakers (sadly, no more.) In fact, I'm listening to Edith Piaf right now. But despite all my obsessions with the language, the culture, and the land, the thought of being in France frankly scared the sh*t out of me. Fortunately, my...

Yes, the innocent into all things russian thing!

Y'know my in-laws (some of em) live in gay Paree. In fact, G went to high school there for awhile.

They really thought you were French? Assuming that's true, I'm impressed!

Y'know they speak a lot of french in Vermont, it's being so close to Quebec and all. There's another plus for ya!

And yeah, they have a lot of baby-torturers there in France. It's why I won't go back. Not even for the nutella crepe street-vendors!

Travels Abroad, Part 4: Italia

Most people I've talked to about... well... the world, seem to agree that Italy ranks pretty high on the Cool Place List. I'd have to agree, but not for the obvious reasons. While my experiences with the country were limited, I think I've figured out the key to finding the Italy we all dream about: avoid big cities!

Milan was...

I LOVE Florence. Yes it's full of tourists but it's so beautiful and magical. I'm with you though, the smaller places off the beaten track are much nicer. Though in all honesty, I haven't been there since I was much younger. I'd love to go back, I wonder how different I'd find it?
Vernazza looks wonderful! Did you have icecream? Italian icecream is amazing. And there are roughly a bajillion different flavours. mmm...

I just reread this entry. It makes me almost sick with wanderlust. I don't need much to make my wanderlust go crazy. At least I have a short trip to, well, Florida in my near future.

Aww...but I love alcohol! Man, I can't believe it finally snowed. We're going sledding tonight, so I'm all excited. My friend Jay is leaving to go to Japan for a year next week, and he had promised to take me sledding, but it never really snowed after last october. Well, wish me luck with the pills and such. I hate medication, but I've tried cold turkey and i'm falling apart, so let's just hope this helps.

Your travel pictures are beautiful, especially the one of ireland. I hope I get to see europe one of these days.

We interrupt your regularly scheduled travelogue with this pointless entry:

I'm a little grumpy at the moment, so I have to vent about something. And I think right now, that something is going to be the sketchy quality of some recent photosets. Some have been pretty cute, but others look like they were shot with a disposable camera and all the creativity of a peapod....

that looks totally beautiful!! I don't the ass smacking, but they would have to get my pretty plastard to get to me go down a mountain that I can't even see!!!

Were you guided down the mountain in that parachute or did you have to land yourself? I could imagine that being rather amazing, as you descibe. smile

The view up that street is amazing!

i am getting high on paint fumes. I think I need to burn a candle or something, geez. Actually kind of nauseating.

Listening to PJ Harvey "Rid of Me" I so love her.

Hi there.

Glad you enjoyed the photos. Did you get the email I sent with some others?

My Uncle was in the Congo. In 40 years it changed from the Congo to Zaire and back to the Congo again. He is a very interesting speaker. Today I started reading his new book on Afrikan witchcraft. I'm the first family member to get it. He wants my opinion as I've traveled to many places in the world but never to Afrika as you know. He wants to see if his writing has painted the picture for someone who hasn't been there.

I jumped on the scales naked today. 200.20LBS. Not bad.

As for the flowers, it is a great job, but very low pay. The chips are much better and less hours.

Let me know if you got the pics k?

Have a lovely Monday.
