that conference was amazing. I learned so much and met so many people. It definately solidified my opinion that it is possible for "compassionate" people to be bigots.
I learned to not support Dole and the rest of the banana industry. Just like many south american mega farmers, they have no regard for their workers or the environment. There are hundreds of documented cases of them broadcasting paraquat (a very toxic insecticide) over their farmworkers without proper PPE (personal protective equiment). Even though there has been cases of farm worker infertility Dole still doesnt do anything about it. All they think about (like most businesses) is the bottom line and dont care about the spill over costs and who it affects.
Thats why Im not going to eat bananas ever again (unless if i know where it came from).
