I'm afraid of the dark.
Or more, I'm afraid of the dim. That point after sunset where the last of its vibrant colors has succumbed to the impending nightfall. Sure, you can still see your hand in front of your face, but you won't for long. Yet that lack of dark persuades a glimmer of futile optimism.
Tonight, I have lowered the blinds and the curtains and unplugged every last LED. The dark, however hard it may be, keeps its promises.
