How goes it, everyone? How has this week been? And what are your plans for the weekend?

I've had some downtime this week. Nothing too dramatic, sometimes I just have to readjust and redelegate my energy, and I've spent some time trying to fix my sleep schedule, and catching up with my own writing process, as I was a bit distracted for a while. I...

@littlejohn22 I've been far too good at disappearing in the past, and just erasing any trace of myself. Just look at my profile here on SG and how I've had to start over after I thought I was gone forever last year.
ojtheviking:
@skisby Yikes! Yeah, raking leaves is a lot cheaper.

It only took me 40+ years to take coffee culture seriously. Welcome to my kitchen, little buddy.

I would also recommend getting coffee beans and grinding them by yourself. That aroma just feels soooo goodΒ  πŸ˜‹
ojtheviking:
@pesdusa I will probably end up doing that for sure! I'll become a total coffee snob in the end πŸ˜…

My goodness. That is unusual and also impressive. I stopped using chopsticks the day I went to a restaurant with a Chinese friend who used a fork. He explained that he can certainly use chopsticks and immediately demonstrated quite a remarkable level of skill but went on to say that forks are just better and there is no stigma attached  to using them in his culture. Since then, I've left chopsticks for all of my European friends to use at such times but I never bother. BTW, I seriously suck with the things. Just can't master the skill at all. The bottom of the heap. Pathetic. Like having four left feet. A paragon of ineptitude. The dexterity of a newborn. I also tend to cry loudly and disturb the other diners, which never helps anyone. But it's OK. Now I really want to try again just with potato chips. Should I? It's nice to hear your voice, BTW. 😊

How is October treating everybody? I've continued to have some ups and downs; I love the Halloween season, but as Norway is headed into darker times overall, it can mess with my mental health a little. Pretty sure that on top of everything else, I have SAD. But we do our best to hang in there, don't we?

I've tried to stay busy with my...

@skisby Good quote! But I am sorry to hear that, brother. Feel free to DM me if you need to vent.

October is such a joyous month for me, love the temperature. I am not much of a horror fan

Pro-tip if you're new to instant coffee like me and trying to find the best balance between powder and water: If you end up looking like you're unsure whether you're doing an impression of Robert De Niro or Clint Eastwoodβ€”and failing at bothβ€”it's somewhat too strong/bitter.

Great facial expression

The roulette has made another choice for me: Paul Tremblay, which I'm not mad about at all! Between last year and this year, I have read several of his novels already, and I've become a great fan of his writing; one of my personal inspirations in my own project, to be honest.

The Cabin at the End of the World has been adapted into a

@niffler I'm excited to get started on this, because I have loved so many of his other books. My goal on Goodreads this year is 30 books, and I am currently at 22, so I've done really well so far. It's been a bit slower lately due to my own writing sessions, though, but I think I will reach my goal by the end of December!

Sweet, have a good read πŸ˜ƒ

Tried to snap photos of myself on a nature hike using the front camera aimed at myself for a wider angle. That didn't work out too well.

It looks like I decided that a good time to take selfies was right in the middle of getting mauled by a mountain lion.

Looking so handsome

When you're doing something creative - writing, painting, composing, etc. - and impostor syndrome kicks in ... do it anyway. Let the creativity flow here and now regardless. Edit, polish, and perfect later.

What you do today might feel like it's the worst and dumbest part of your overall work that you've ever done. But keep going. Look back at it another day and evaluate

Very good advice. When you look at the amount of time that goes into revising the initial garbage that becomes an award winning work, you can see that it's about persistence and refusing to stop until you reach the level you intended. "I can't do it" is how you short circuit that process. I can write a pretty good paragraph once a year. The rest of the time, it sucks donkey balls and needs repeated tedious revisions just to even make any sense. Very humbling.Β πŸ˜‰
ojtheviking:
@jozsef Spot on, brother. I appreciate this feedback so much!

How has everybody been doing lately?

I haven't done a Weekend Kickoff blog post in a while, because I've been both a little busy, and a little six. But I want to get back into it soon, just to give some regular updates.

When I say I've been sick, fortunately it has only been a light case of the flu, not Covid or anything like...
