A boring day spent filling my mind with splinters of memories and self-indulgent fantasies. So much in my brain and no where for it to go. Not realizing that I had been daydreaming for blocks of 30 minutes at a time. My mind isn't always a pretty place and I managed to get stuck inside it today. I am amazed sometimes at my ability to turn it on and off. I remember being stuck in my own head, then seeing a co-worker, pasting on a big smile, and chatting for a few minutes, but I can't remember a thing that was said. Listening to the same sad song over and over until it had become my anthem. Too many minutes spent trying to convince myself that my life is rich. Rules were broken and lessons were learned. My pants seemed too tight...the same pumps I love and wear 3 days a week pinched and hurt...my skin didn't feel right. The strongest urge to come home and sit down at the keyboard and play until my fingers cramped. Pushing away from the "Honey, I'm home" kiss that I give every day. Don't touch me, please.
I got in an interesting coversation with my boss today about how people with tattoos and piercings are immature, silly, and have trouble being successful. This was after a younger guy had come in with his ears gauged and what I'm assuming was a full sleeve (his sweatshirt was pulled up enough for me to only see the bottom half of his forearms) and inquired about one of our computer courses. If I had had the energy, I would have explained to her how wrong she was and then dropped the bomb that under my mature, professional work clothes, I have a lovely spattering of tattoos. A co-worker though...who is probably about 60...a really nice older man...amazed me by piping up and saying that tattoos are a form of self-expression, can be lovely works of art, and can enhance a person's physical appearance. If I could have told him thank you, without seeming smarmy to my boss, I would have.
i hate that stereotype! those people who think that just because someone who has tattoos and / or piercings wont be as successful as someone who doesnt. thats bullshit! i know sooo many people who have tattoos and piercings who have great careers. i mean look at you!
