I volunteered at the women's shelter again tonight. I was paired with the same little boy, Randy, as I was last week. He recognized me when he walked in the room, and he was really happy to see me. That boy can really read! While most of the other kids had their volunteers read to them, and only 1 or 2 books I might add, Randy read 4 books during the reading hour! He's one of those kids that loves to read, and he only needed help with some of the more difficult words. During the arts and crafts segment I made him a paper mask that he could wear, and it made him so happy. Children are so easy to please, too bad most adults aren't appeased so easily. Anyway, I enjoyed myself again, although today I had a long day at work so I was a little tired. But it was worth it to see Randy happy - hopefully I won't see him again. Because if I don't, it means that he, his sisters, and his mother have found a place to live again and that they don't need to live in the shelter anymore.
I have to remind myself how fortunate I do have it. No matter how bad things may get for me, I know that I'm blessed. I only have to think about Randy and his family to remember that I have it much better than so many others.
In other news, I started work on the database at work, so things are going to get a lot more hectic pretty soon! Tomorrow's Friday, I hope the weekend brings some fun!
