You know the song that goes "I wish they all could be California girls"?
Well, I wish they all could be "Africa" by Toto. No joke. I love this song. A couple of my friends are in a few bands together, one of which is a cover band that gets reunited every year or so, still the same cast as when it was formed in high school. The encore is almost always Africa, and I get a shout out every time. Do I think this makes me cool? You bet your fucking ass I do.
I'd also like briefly mention the song "Famous Blue Raincoat". Leonard Cohen is a poet. I've heard three versions of this song now, one by Mr. cohen, one by Jennifer Warnes, and now one by Tori Amos. What a great song.
